This week at Benchmark we saw our sponsorship of the Whirlow Hall Farm 480 scheme in action, as children from Mansel Primary had the full farm experience – bringing the classroom to the country.
The scheme asks supporters of Whirlow Hall Farm to donate £480 – this then enables a group of 12 children to stay on the farm for two nights, or 30 children to visit the farm for one day. Schools that partake in the scheme are from disadvantaged backgrounds that do not readily have access to farm experiences.
At Benchmark our funding supported Year Three children from Sheffield’s Mansel Primary to visit the farm.
“We were lucky enough to see the children experiencing the benefits of the scheme first hand – many of whom had never been to a farm or handled animals. To see the delight on their faces was fantastic as they took pony rides, collected eggs and cared for the animals. This is a fantastic scheme that has direct benefit to the community and makes a real impact in children’s lives,’” said Louisa Harrison-Walker.
