Digital Talent Of 2017 - Benchmark Recruit, Sheffield

Digital Talent Of 2017

Benchmark has signed up to sponsor the Code>Make>Win awards for 2017 after their heads were turned by the hot bed of young talent at last year’s Code>Make>Win awards.

This year young people will be invited to showcase their innovative ideas through Sheffield’s annual digital making competition, Code>Make>Win. Run by Sheffield City Council, the competition is open for entries in four categories: Software Apps, Games, Robotics and Animation.

“We are delighted to sponsor this inspiring initiative for the second year running, continuing to support the development of young creative and digital talent. Based on the high level of creations from last year’s Code>Make>Win we are expecting great things from the talented pool of young people.” said Louisa Harrison-Walker, Managing Director at Benchmark.

Last year  Benchmark offered a ‘Best Innovation’ prize which went to Jack Underwood, aged 12, from Westfield School, for his app entitled Student Essentials that helps pupils track their homework and includes a translator and measurement convertor.

Rob Walker, Programme Manager, Sheffield City Council, says: “Code>Make>Win is very important to us as a city as it promotes and recognises the talent that our young people have in digital. We see this competition as an important part of our developing digital skills landscape. We have a thriving creative digital sector in the city and we also need to bring the opportunities that this brings to the attention of our young people. We are continuing to work with a wide range of partners both inside and outside of Sheffield, to give our young people the best opportunities in a changing world.”

This year Sheffield City Council has worked in collaboration with partners to offer cash prizes of up to £250 for successful entrants. Any 9-19-year-old living in Sheffield can enter the competition. The Early Bird Ideas competition is open until Wednesday 15th February, where there is a £150 prize up for grabs for the best idea.

The main competition for completed projects runs until the 31st May 2017. Find out more at
