Last week one Benchmark consultants childhood ambition came true as he finally got to play on the pitch of his beloved Sheffield United.
Andrew Moss tells us the story of the day he fulfilled his childhood ambition and shares some snaps:
I have supported Sheffield United all my life and got my first season ticket aged 9 – and ever since I have had the ambition of playing at the ground. I entered a competition with Ladbrokes to play at Sheffield United’s Bramall Lane and ended up winning. I never actually thought this would become a reality so I was very excited when I found out I’d be playing at the stadium.
I’m fortunate that my employer Benchmark bent the rules and allowed me to take leave at such short notice so I could play in the afternoon. As being a footballer was my childhood ambition, and we are in the business of fulfilling ambitions they could see how important it was to me! On arriving at Bramall Lane I made my way through the players entrance and then into the home dressing room. It was surreal to be in the area that is home to the Sheffield United players – it was great to get a glimpse into the life of a professional footballer.
Having met all the other competition winners it was match time. The feeling of walking out of the tunnel onto the pitch, where as a child and in my adulthood I have seen some of the best players in the world (usually playing against the Blades), was amazing.
The match ended in a 4-3 loss unfortunately, but hitting the crossbar and scoring in front of the kop will be some of my best memories for the rest of my life. Fulfilling my ambition was a truly amazing experience and I would say to anyone to never give up on your dreams as it’s worth the wait.
