Death Café

Friday, 7 June 2019

14:00 to 16:00

£3 recommended donation, booking essential

Join us for another Death Café to brek down the taboos around discussing death, in order to help people make the most of their finite lives. We will be using the works featured in the Darkness into Light exhibition to kick-start discussions.

Founder Jon Underwood, who held the UK's first Café in his home in London, explained "when people sit down to talk about death, the pretence kind of falls away, and people talk very openly and authentically. They say things in front of strangers which are really profound and beautiful and for English people to do that, with our traditional stuff upper lip, is very rare."

These sessions are facilitated by volunteers, with the conversation led by its participants - meaning there is no agenda, and there are no objectives or foregone conclusions. It is a discussion group, rather than a grief or counselling session. Each participant is free to steer the discussion where it feels natural to go.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Penny on pjmerrett@talktalk.net. You can also find out more about the Death Café movement at www.deathcafe.com

Please note, the £3 recommended donation is towards tea and cake, but you are welcome to sign up and attend for free. If  you would like to sign up for this free event without making a donation towards tea and cake, please call Museums Sheffield on (0114) 2782675.
